Basic hatred in an interview about music

In the “Questionnaire” section, artists answer a total of 15 questions on the subject of music. They are also given another task: take a music-related photo or draw or write something with a pencil. This time with basic hatred.

First CD: The first single I bought was “Kumba Yo” by Michael Mittermeier and the Guano Apes. The first album was “Alles was du woll” by Die 3. Generation. Does anyone else know them? Hey, I was maybe 10 years old or something.

First concert: The Kelly Family, November 26th, 1999, Oberhausen. I would like to say that my mom brought me along, but I thought they were fantastic as a kid and I really wanted to come with them.

Earliest childhood memories related to music: My parents had several Westernhagen CDs. When I was 3-4 years old I wanted to hear the song “Sexy” again and again, because when I said the line “You’re a weapon for which there is no gun license”, I always understood “Waffel”. And waffles are delicious.

Current favorite song: “Thanks, I hate it” von Catapults

Most embarrassing favorite song: I don’t think much of guilty pleasures or embarrassing songs. If I like something, then I like that and then the song is just great. But most people look a little puzzled when I say that I love “Run away with me” by Carly Rae Jepsen. Absolutely underrated song and in my opinion one of the best pop songs of the last few years. I’m also an absolute Taylor Swift Ultra. Some people find it embarrassing too.

Own favorite song: It varies, but right now I love “Neugeboren” a lot from my new album.

Favorite song linee: “The only thing that punk rock should ever really mean is not sitting around and waiting for the lights to go green”, from the song “Try this at home” by Frank Turner. Without this line, there would probably be no basic hatred.

Best concert: Bruce Springsteen at the Pinkpop Festival 2012. I lost my friends in the fray and was annoyed that I couldn’t share this with anyone now. Bruce managed to be my friend by my side for three hours, as cheesy as that sounds. 80,000 people in front of the stage and I had the feeling that he was only playing for me.

Worst concert: Since I also work for various concert promoters in addition to making music, I’ve already seen a lot of concerts where I thought “Phew, not mine”, but I wouldn’t have watched them privately anyway.

A concert that I was disappointed with as a visitor was Die Ärzte on June 15, 2013 in the Müngersdorfer Stadium in Cologne. I love Die Ärzte, grew up with them, saw countless fantastic concerts by them and I think the new album is great again, but that evening everything that makes the band really special was missing. That could be described as a refusal to work.

Best own concert: October 27, 2018, Trogen, district. A small mountain hut in the Swiss Alps, a handful of good people as an audience and my dear friend Thore Wittenberg with them. Concerts with Thore are always at the forefront, but this evening was special.

Vinyl, CD or mp3? Vinyl! It was incredibly important to me that my debut album came out on vinyl. There is no medium where you can listen to music more consciously.

Download or Stream? Clearly stream. When I’m not at home in front of the record player, Spotify is always by my side.

Club concert or festival? You probably can’t create a more intimate atmosphere anywhere than in small shops. All the particularly great concerts that I played took place in small clubs or bars. As an acoustic artist, it is often difficult at festivals because people want something to dance to. But that’s what I have my band for now. Maybe then my mind will change.

Three songs that shouldn’t be missing on my mixtape:

“I’m not okay” von My Chemical Romance
“Style” von Taylor Swift
“Message in a Bottle” von The Police

Which album I definitely won’t take with me to a lonely island: What is the name of Fynn Kliemann’s album? At least that. Should I rather continue dowelling things together or renovating houseboats.
