Bashar Al Assad Sworn In As President Of Syria, 4th In Office

DAMASCUS, KOMPAS.TVSyrian President Bashar al-Assad was appointed on Saturday (17/7/2021) for a fourth term and will be president for the next seven years.

Assad’s election was held in Syria, which was ravaged by the uprising, where in the election Assad won 95 percent of the vote, in elections that were considered controversial and not recognized by countries hostile to Syria such as the United States, Britain, Germany, France, and Italy. .

As reported by the Associated Press, Saturday (17/07/2021), Assad was sworn in under the constitution and the Koran in front of more than 600 guests, including ministers, businessmen, academics and journalists, the inauguration organizers said.

In his inaugural speech, Assad said, “Elections have proved the strength of the people’s legitimacy that the people have given to the state.”

Assad stressed, “The people have responded to statements by Western officials that undermine the legitimacy of the country, the constitution and (our) homeland.”

He further asked those responsible for the Syrian chaos to return to the motherland’s lap.

“Let’s tell them, you are being exploited by the enemies of our country against their own people, and the revolution they dream of is just an illusion,” Assad said.
