Bas Muijs leaving GTST results in Stefano being completely done with Meerdijk.

The whole of Meerdijk seems to have had enough of Stefano Sanders. Ludo’s brother antagonizes everyone, especially in Thursday night’s episode. Is it time for Bas Muijs’ character (46) to say goodbye to ‘Good Times, Bad Times’?

Stefano has been anything but loved in the soap village lately GTST. For example, he conspires with Nina Sanders (Marly van der Velden) to make life miserable for his brother Ludo and he goes to bed with the much younger Merel Verduyn (Sophie Bouquet). When Nina and Merel don’t want anything from him anymore, Stefano lashes out verbally.

For example, he sneered at Shanti (Bertrie Wierenga), the wife of his good friend Rik (Ferri Somogyi) who had a stillbirth: “Jesus Christ, who do you think you are? You’re going to patronize me because you can’t have children of your own.” And then, of course, even the empathetic Rik explodes. “Now you’re going too far, you bastard, fuck off!” he screams as he violently throws Stefano out of his house.

In the latest episode, Stefano hits rock bottom. After he gets up after Rik’s throw, he trotes to the Café De Koning, which was saved from destruction. Already stunned, Stefano orders a double whiskey with ice. “I don’t think that’s such a good idea,” replies Saskia (Tamara Brinkman). “I’ll make an espresso for you,” concludes dear Laura (Jette van der Meij). “I don’t want espresso at all,” Stefano grumbles. “I just want whiskey. It’s not that hard, is it? (…) Jesus, you all are stupid bitches.”

Subsequently, Stefano also has a lot of verbal abuse in the chic De Rozenboom when he bumps into Ludo there. “I’m glad you’re here,” it sounds. And: “Foul bloodhound.”

It should be clear: Stefano is a big troublemaker in various storylines. During a nail party, Shanti, Saskia and Nina sum up Stefano’s disgust. “Pretty insufferable”, Saskia calls the man who has gone to bed with her young daughter. Shanti also does not have a good word for him: “I felt sorry for him at first, but when he said that I patronized him because of the lack of children of my own, I was completely done with it.”

At the end of the episode you can see how Stefano rock bottom reaches. Waving with a bottle of vodka, he walks along the water, drool running down his chin and screaming loudly. Not a pretty sight and a step aside could just mean the drowning death of the drunken beetle. What is Stefano even doing here, with no one waiting for him after all the hatred he reaps himself?

Fortunately, GTST does not let that be Stefano’s fate. Before the episode ends he seems to repent and throws the bottle of vodka into the water while the song You Don’t Own Me can be heard from Tamino. Will he be able to free himself from (the hatred of) Ludo, make amends with his friends and family and face a happy future in Meerdijk?

GTST can be seen on RTL 4 from Monday to Thursday at 8 p.m. and can be viewed ahead at Videoland.
