Bartoli sings and remains: the magnet and engine of the Whitsun Festival

Cecilia Bartoli enchanted with a brilliant baroque evening – and extended her contract as artistic director until 2026.

The extraordinary, worthy of the festival: How can it be defined in solo singing? The last two evenings in the “Canto lirico” series in Salzburg gave very different, but certainly brilliant answers to this question. And after Juan Diego Flórez’s recital and arias evening the day before, Cecilia Bartoli’s no less grandiose baroque program can also be broken down by its encores. Connoisseurs may have long known what Bartoli performs in the aria “A facile vittoria” from Agostino Steffani’s “Tassilone”, but they let themselves be carried away again and again like the first time, together with the cheering novices.
