Bari Polyclinic, Hematology with transplantation and Frugoni Internal Medicine closed. Legionella and Covid in the Chini pavilion

“The decommissioning of the beds of the Complex Operating Unit of Hematology with transplantation, as well as the placement in quarantine of all its staff until 1 December 2020. The suspension of all urgent and ordinary hospitalizations is confirmed”. The note of November 26 signed by the medical director of the Polyclinic, Matilde Carlucci, leaves no room for interpretation, and unfortunately it is not the only communication sent last Thursday.

On the same day, Carlucci writes: “The deactivation of the beds of the Frugoni University Internal Medicine Complex Operative Unit is arranged, as well as the placement in quarantine of all its staff until 1 December 2020. The suspension of all urgent and ordinary hospitalizations “.

The covid, in short, has brought the Chini pavilion to its knees, already tried as Asclepios by the Legionella, for which the Public Prosecutor of Bari is investigating who also requested the ban on the general manager, Giovanni Migliore, investigated together with the same health director, Matilde Carlucci, the administrative director, Tiziana Di Matteo, the head of departmental public health, Giuseppe Calabrese and the technical area director, Claudio Forte.

As the most attentive readers of the Italian newspaper recall, on 20 September we gave the news of Legionella in the pipes of the Frugoni Clinic, a circumstance that led to the immediate blocking of hospitalizations. From the subsequent inspection, the need emerged for urgent technical interventions on the water network of the Chini pavilion and the progressive deactivation of beds throughout the pavilion.

So after the transfer of the hospitalization activity of the Murri Internal Medicine Complex Operating Unit from the Chini pavilion to the D’Agostino pavilion, on November 27, Dr. Carlucci had to order “the immediate blocking of hospitalizations and the progressive deactivation of the beds of Complex Operational Units of Endocrinology, Rheumatology and University Cardiology ”, always located in the same Chini pavilion, due to the urgent radical technical interventions on the water network.
