Barendrechts Dagblad | The number of corona infections continues to rise

About 19,000 corona infections have probably been diagnosed in the past week. The exact figure will be published on Tuesday afternoon in the weekly update of the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM). In any case, the number will rise sharply, as on Tuesday the institute reported that it had received 13,741 reports of positive tests in the seven days before. The week before, the number of infections rose by 8,265.

In the six days since the last update, the number of infections has increased by 16,300. The number of hospital admissions rose by 197. These figures are sometimes received with some delay. If hospitals pass on their information about the weekend to the regional health services on Monday, this can only be seen in the RIVM figures on Tuesday. The number of confirmed deaths from corona rose from Tuesday to Monday by 89. This includes deaths from longer ago, which have only now been added to the overview.

Amsterdam saw the largest increase. In the past six days, 1921 new infections have been registered there. The number of corona cases in Rotterdam increased by 1296 and in The Hague by 1097. Other rapid risers are Utrecht, Nijmegen, Groningen and Leiden. Amsterdam registered 34 hospital admissions, The Hague 32 and Rotterdam 11. The Hague had seven deaths, Rotterdam and Gooise Meren five.

Schiermonnikoog is the only municipality in the Netherlands where the corona virus has not yet been diagnosed. In Vaals, Limburg, no residents were tested positive in the past week either. All other 353 municipalities had at least one infection.

The official number of infections was 114,540 on Monday. Since the outbreak began, 12,664 people have been hospitalized in the Netherlands and 6,380 have died from the corona virus.
