The Copa del Rey quarter-final duel took place at Camp Nou, Thursday (26/1/2023) in the morning WIB. Jesus Gil Manzano is confirmed to be the arbiter for Barcelona’s duel with Sociedad.
Barcelona actually has bad memories with the referee. Gil Manzano had hit Lewandowski with a red card.
Barcelona coach, Xavi Hernandez, was asked about the referee. He insists there is no problem and believes Lewandowski has also forgotten about it.
“There are no problems and Lewandowski will focus,” Xavi said as quoted by AS.
“I tell the players to forget about the referees, because we don’t control them. We can control our game and our state of mind. We are in a good moment, we have just won a title and the appointment of a referee is not going to change anything for us.”
Lewandowski received a red card when Barcelona visited Osasuna headquarters in the LaLiga continuation at the Estadio El Sadar, Wednesday (9/11/2022). He was sent off in the 20th minute after receiving a second yellow card.
The second yellow card was given to Lewandowski after the Polish striker was judged to have elbowed David Garcia during an aerial duel. The decision of the referee Jesus Gil Manzano received strong protests from the Barcelona players, including Lewandowski.
As he walked off the pitch, Lewandowski was seen touching his nose and pointing at the referee. Lewandowski was judged to have mocked the referee.
The incident was then included in the referee Jesus Gil Manzano’s report and Lewandowski was finally sentenced to a three-game ban. One for his red card in two games for being disrespectful and arrogant.
Barcelona then appealed. In the process the sentence was suspended and Lewandowski was able to play again.
