It has been known for a while that there is a Barbie-movie must come with Margot Robbie, but now the green light has been officially given for the film. In addition, Robbie has revealed that the talented Greta Gerwig will direct the film.
Gerwig would previously write the script alone with her partner Noah Baumbach, but during an interview with Vogue, Robbie casually dropped that Gerwig will be directing:
“There’s a lot involved with a well-known product like Barbie. And there are quite a few nostalgic feelings about the dolls.
But there are also a lot of ways in which you can approach this project. Most people have an immediate idea of what a Barbie movie will look like. But when you hear that Greta Gerwig writes and directs, people will think very differently about it…”
Details about the plot of Barbie are still kept secret, but we do know that the recordings should start somewhere in 2022. Gerwig and Baumbach will first complete their current project, White Noise off. It therefore seems that we Barbie cannot be expected until 2023.
