Bao Zhijin’s niece’s charges for throwing objects into the street and destroying two cars increased to 5 counts and scheduled to start trial on 5.17

Amina, the niece of Bao Zhijin, the non-permanent judge of the Court of Final Appeal, was accused of throwing the domestic helper’s sundries on the street after arguing with the domestic helper in Wan Chai’s residence, damaging two private cars downstairs. She was charged with two counts of criminal damage, and the case was re-tried at the Eastern Magistrates’ Court today (14th). The prosecution added 3 new charges, making the defendant face a total of 5 charges, including 4 counts of criminal damage and 1 count of theft. The defendant denied all the charges. The magistrate scheduled a trial on May 17. The trial period is expected to be 3 days. The defendant was granted bail.

The defendant, Bokhary, Amina Mariam, is 46 years old. The prosecution said there were 11 witnesses in the case and there were no cautionary statements. On behalf of the defendant, the barrister requested to change the bail conditions so that she could leave Hong Kong for travel. If she was refused, the application would not need to report to the police station. However, after hearing the statement, the magistrate rejected the application and only approved the defendant’s bail with the original conditions, that is, a bond of HK$100,000, not to leave Hong Kong, to report to the police station regularly, and not to contact prosecution witnesses. The defendant was very dissatisfied when he learned of the court’s decision, and left the court angrily.

Case number: ESCC 2524/2022
