Bankruptcies and bankruptcies Restaurants in the Freiburg region die due to Corona | South Baden

The week-long closure due to the corona pandemic means the end of some restaurants in and around Freiburg. In the meantime, even traditional companies have to file for bankruptcy.

The predictions of the DEHOGA association of restaurants have been pretty bleak for some time. “If it stays that way, we expect 10,000 operational tasks and bankruptcies in the Baden-Württemberg hospitality industry,” reports Daniel Ohl from DEHOGA. He has no statistics, but he is certain that the tendency towards business operations and bankruptcies will increase: “The businesses are at the end of their liquidity. Now businesses are falling over or are declaring that they can no longer open.” A scenario that has already become a sad reality in and around Freiburg.

Closures: brake before bankruptcy or insufficient reserves

Corona makes life difficult for practically everyone in the catering industry. Whether old-established or a start-up: you either stop before bankruptcy or simply have too few reserves. The “Kühle Krug” in Günterstal now closes just like the “Oscars” in Hinterzarten. The latter had recently received a Michelin star and had more reservations. The outlook was positive – now it is closed instead.

Rombach-Scheuer: “Stay healthy, calm and brave!”

The operator of the Rombach scrubber “ROM” in Staufen regrets his decision to close it. Initially optimistic about being able to receive his guests again soon, he is now preventing impending bankruptcy. With the closure, “an institution here in Staufen simply ceases to exist,” as one resident tells us.

Restaurant dying started before the corona pandemic

Some companies also had to fight before the corona pandemic. “In many cases, companies without formal bankruptcy disappear.”Then the village inn no longer exists“explains Daniel Ohl.
