Bank Customers’ Guide to Preventing Online Fraud in 6 Simple Ways

Fraud can happen anywhere and anytime. One example is the mode of bank fraud that often occurs. Get to know how to avoid online fraud so you can transact safely.

Reporting from News.com.au, Sunday (2/4/2023), according to a ScamWatch report, in the first 59 days of this year, Australians have lost nearly USD 100 million (Rp 1.5 billion) due to fraud.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has guidelines to protect and assist the public against text phishing scams. Here’s how to avoid online fraud for bank customers which can also be applied in Indonesia:

1. Don’t Click Any Links

Bank customers are expected not to click on any links or open text attachments that claim to come from the bank or other trusted organizations that ask to update or verify. If you encounter this, just press delete.

2. Looking for References to Similar Scams

By looking for references to similar frauds, this allows bank customers to avoid fraud mode.

3. Ensure the Site is Secure

If something is detected on the site, just look for the security marking symbol on the website to determine whether the site is safe or not.

4. Don’t Give Out Personal Information

Never provide personal information about credit cards or online banking accounts if you receive a telephone call claiming to be from a bank or other organization. The customer should contact the bank directly to confirm.

5. Call the Bank Immediately

Immediately contact the bank if the customer has already provided his personal information to the scammer. This needs to be done so that it is immediately followed up.

6. Report Fraud

The last thing a bank customer can do when exposed to fraud mode is to report fraud through the report page to help spread the word about fraud.
