Golden Genêts and ‘Bas les Pattes’: Music for Celebration and Awareness at Madeleine Festivals

The Haut-Mauco Golden Genêts are set to once again feature prominently in the Haut-Mauco Golden Genêts repertoire. Thomas Bertoni, the association’s president, expressed his enthusiasm, recalling playing these tunes fifteen years ago. “We are keen to maintain the traditional repertoire; the public is applicant,” he stated.

Fifty-Year Milestone

This year marks a significant milestone for the Genêts d’Or as they celebrate their 50th anniversary, which has involved numerous events leading up to their performances at the ferias.Approximately twenty musicians from the Banda will be present for the five-day Madeleine festivals. Their performances will include the Cavalcade, Pitchouns day, and the animation of the Novillada on Saturday.Their musical selections are diverse, spanning from popular variety hits to traditional bandas music.Attendees can relive cherished childhood memories with their renditions of popular cartoon themes, including medleys from ‘golden cities’ and ‘Goldorak.’

“Each year, we add one or two pieces,” Bertoni mentioned. This year’s addition is ‘Egina,’ a traditional banda song. Bertoni emphasized their commitment to preserving the traditional repertoire, noting, “We are committed to maintaining the traditional repertoire; the public is a requestor.” He conveyed his eagerness to connect with the audience.

‘Bas les Pattes’: The Anti-Sexist anthem

For those attending the holidays seeking an escape from daily life, the anti-relief collective’s song ‘Bas les Pattes’ offers a chance to engage with important social issues. The song aims to raise awareness about sexist behaviors during local holidays, integrating a message of change through music. With lyrics like “Do not make your heavy,let her make the brute” and “a friend ranged to the feria? Go to bed in his Fiat Panda!”,the song,recorded in April by Sangria Free,the Incognitos,and “some friends,” is designed to make an impact without being preachy.
