Band hit by plane chaos: – Lost 250,000 kroner

– It has not been possible to find solutions. We have tried all possible solutions, such as renting a bus, other flight options – and even the Danish boat. But it has unfortunately not been possible, drummer Martin Horntveth in Jaga Jazzist tells TV 2.

The band, which is originally from Tønsberg, went all the way to the top in the BBC’s selection of this year’s jazz album in 2002. Now Jaga Jazzist was supposed to be in Brussels to play at the Brosella festival, but the band does not get out of Norway.

– It’s annoying, of course. The band was high up on the poster and we were the last band to play tonight, he says.

– When we have also had a pandemic for two years, and this comes on top of it all, then it is of course a little annoying.

– SAS is important to us

The band was initially to fly with SAS. The airline has already canceled around 4,000 flights this summer. The basis is a lack of crew, delivery delays and ripple effects of chaos at airports in several places in the world.

In addition, the airline is fighting to avoid a strike.

– In total, we are eleven people who are going out on the road, but people live in different places, so there is a lot of logistics here. Everything has to work. We spent over 14 hours finding different solutions.

– Now we are crossing our fingers that our plans in August will not be affected by more problems.

– What do you think about the strike situation itself?

– I do not know enough about it to express myself, but SAS is very important to us musicians. They have such an important understanding for us when we travel – at the same time as they make the journey easier for us. We can do nothing but cross our fingers that SAS does not go down for counting.

– How much have you lost on the cancellations?

– Approximately 250,000 kroner for the two jobs.

– Very unfortunate

Press manager Tonje Sund in SAS tells TV 2 that the flight to Jaga Jazzist in question was canceled due to a lack of manning among the pilots.

– It is of course very unfortunate and incredibly sad that this has happened, she says.

Sund recommends everyone who is affected to contact SAS customer service to sort out what they may be entitled to.

– If a flight should be changed, you have the right to be rebooked as soon as possible, rebooked at a later date or refund of the ticket.

– Again, we just have to strongly apologize.
