At least 24 people were killed in Angola in the event of homicide, drowning and traffic accidents, from December 24 until 12.30 pm last Wednesday, Angolan police said.

The information was transmitted this Thursday by the director of the Institutional Communication and Press office of the Angolan police general command, Orlando Bernardo, saying that during the period 148 crimes occurred with the arrest of 107 citizens.

At a press conference on the public security situation in Angola on Christmas Eve, the sub-commissioner pointed out that despite the numbers, the night of the consulate was’ calm and quiet ‘, but advised citizens to avoid’ the excessive consumption of alcoholic beverages’.

According to the Angolan police officer, five of the deaths were due to homicides, with two cases already clarified, during which there were also 28 bodily offenses, with the provinces of Luanda, Bié and Benguela leading the criminal indexes.

In the area of ​​road accidents, the Angolan police recorded 52 traffic accidents resulting in 12 deaths and 96 injuries, where road killings dominated the accidents.

The Angolan Civil Protection and Fire Service was also in action, and recorded 14 occurrences, half of which were deaths, including four by drowning, two suicides by hanging and one death as a result of the collapse of a residence.

Regarding border surveillance, the Angolan police questioned 294 citizens, mostly from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo), and repatriated 129.

About 60,000 staff, 18,000 of them in Luanda, are deployed to ensure the festive season in Angola.
