Bali Flood Death toll Revised Down to 17 as Emergency Response Continues
Denpasar, Bali – Teh Bali Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) has revised the confirmed death toll from recent flooding down to 17, correcting a previous count of 18 due to a data entry error. The agency continues to manage an ongoing emergency response, prioritizing the safety and well-being of affected residents.
According to BPBD Bali Head I Gede Agung teja Bhusana Yadnya, updated data as of Friday, September 12, at 2:00 p.m. local time (GMT+8), reconfirmed at 8:00 p.m., indicates 17 fatalities and five individuals remain missing. The floods, triggered by heavy rainfall, have impacted multiple regions across the island, prompting a week-long emergency response period initiated on Wednesday, September 10.
The fatalities are distributed across four districts: 11 in Denpasar, 3 in Gianyar, 2 in Jembrana, and 1 in badung. Infrastructure damage is significant, with an estimated 515 buildings affected. Denpasar bore the brunt of the damage, reporting 475 impacted structures, followed by Tabanan (29), Karangasem (6), Gianyar (2), and Bangli (3).
As of Friday at 12:00 p.m., six evacuation posts have been established in Denpasar, providing shelter for 188 displaced residents. These centers are located in local elementary schools and traditional Balinese community units (Banjar). The BPBD is focused on evacuating residents from affected areas and distributing essential aid to those who have been displaced.
