Balance of the first semester for Latam: number of passengers transported fell almost half

The airline informed the market that in June it carried 273,000 passengers.

Latam Airlines continues to feel the effects of the coronavirus on its operations. The airline informed the market that in June it carried 273 thousand passengers, which is a decrease of 95.1% compared to the 5.5 million moved during the same month of 2019.

With this, and thanks to the first months of the year, a period in which the pandemic had not yet hit the airline industry, passengers transported in the first half reached 18.2 million, which is a drop of 47.8% .

The analysis made by Latam CFO, Ramiro Alfonsín, in the United States Court during the financial reorganization process carried out by the airline in that jurisdiction, suggests that the airline’s indexes will be critical from August. The executive considered that it was essential to access the resources provided by the Debtor In Posession (DIP) during July, and thus avoid interruption of the operation of the airline, since otherwise “it will operate below the minimum liquidity it needs to start the business. “

Before the pandemic, the air group had more than 300 aircraft in its fleet and was the leader in Latin America, with a network that offered services to 145 destinations in 26 countries, including six national markets in South America: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru, in addition to international operations in Latin America, Europe, the United States, the Caribbean, Oceania, Africa and Asia.
