Bailiffs warn against emails with false invoices …

The National Chamber of Bailiffs (NKGB) warns against a false mail that is in circulation. In that e-mail, a certain bailiff threatens an attachment if an outstanding amount is not paid. The NKGB strongly advises against complying with this and asks to report this false e-mail.

In the past week, the NKGB reached out to hundreds of concerned people about an email reminding them to pay an outstanding invoice. If not, seizure would follow. “This is a blatant attempt at fraud. The so-called judicial officer “Lucas Jacobs” and “Johan Peeters” are not part of the Belgian corps of judicial officers, ”the NKGB reports.

People who receive this email are prompted to report it to the national hotline or file a complaint with the police.

The NKGB also provides a few rules of thumb to keep in mind. If in doubt as to whether the person in question can actually exercise the office of (candidate) judicial officer in Belgium, you can check this on the website www.gerechtsdeurwaarders.be. An e-mail or letter from a judicial officer must state the name of the (candidate) judicial officer, his contact details and the debt involved.

The NKGB recommends never paying if you are asked to deposit into a foreign account, because every Belgian bailiff must have a Belgian account number.
