Bahrain’s opposition rejects normalization of relations with Israel, calls on people to fight back

MANAMA, KOMPAS.com – Group opposition Bahrain rejected the decision of the Bharain Government to normalize diplomatic relations with Israel.

The leading Shia cleric, on Sunday (13/9/2020), called on the Bahraini people to fight back Reuters.

Ayatollah scholar Sheikh Isa Qassim, who lived in Iran, opposes the normalization of relations between Arab countries and Israel.

The remarks were in a statement published by Bahrain’s disbanded opposition al-Wefaq party.

He said the deals between Israel and the UAE last month and between Israel and Bahrain on Friday were against the will of the people.

“The government has suffered a psychological defeat and wants to impose it on the people, and the people must fight this defeat,” said Qassim.

On the other hand, a joint statement issued by a group of Bahraini political and civil society associations, including the Bahrain Bar Association, on Sunday also opposed the deal.

“The normalization deal will not have popular support, this is in line with the Bahraini generation who have been raised in loyalty to the Palestinian cause,” the statement said.
