Bahrain Formula 1 2020 Grand Prix

The Bahrain Formula 1 Grand Prix began a major crash. Already in the first lap, Romain Grosjean hit the barriers and his car exploded. The rider escaped from the flames and has only relatively minor injuries.

After the start, a certain world champion Lewis Hamilton secured the lead from the pole position, on the contrary, his teammate from Mercedes Valtteri Bottas fell significantly. But the real drama was yet to come.

In the third turn, Romain Grosjean collided with the AlphaTauri monopost of the Russian driver Daniil Kvjat. The unmanageable Haas crashed into the barriers, broke, and the front flew through the protective barrier. In addition, the spilled fuel began and the scene of the accident turned into a fiery hell.

The halo protection system probably saved the lives of a Geneva native when hit at full speed. Grosjean got out of the burning wreck quickly. Suspecting broken ribs, he immediately headed for the hospital.

“I don’t want to make any medical remarks, but Romain (Grosjean) has minor burns on his hands and ankles. Of course he’s shaken,” added Haas chief Guenther Steiner shortly after the accident.

One of the first at the crash site was the driver of a medical car. “It was a big surprise. I haven’t experienced anything like this in twelve years. We started rehearsed rescue processes. Romain started to get out of the car, which is almost unbelievable,” said Alan van der Merwe, who also helped the rider get out of the flames.

The race was immediately stopped due to the accident. After an hour and a half of thorough removal of debris and repair of devastated barriers, the Grand Prix started again.

Soon after the second start, another wild collision occurred. Kvyat appeared in it again. Lance Stroll “closed” him in a sharp right turn, who ended the rounds up after the collision. The Canadian emerged unscathed from the overturned Racing Point. The Russian in AlphaTauri’s service eventually received a ten-second penalty for the collision.
