It is a wake-up call from BAG director Pascal Strupler: “Guys, it’s not over yet!”. Strupler is watching the increasing number of cases in recent days with great concern. “If we don’t follow the distance and hygiene rules now, we’ll create a free pass for the virus.”

The Federal Office of Public Health reports 69 new corona cases today. 58 were yesterday. That’s how high the values were last in May. That is “worrying,” says Strupler. “At the latest when the number of cases doubles again, we have a problem.”

Where’s the virus?
The virus seems to have disappeared from people’s minds. Carelessness has been spreading on the streets in the past few days. Restaurants and parks are full again, trains are well staffed – only masks are rarely seen. “The discipline is clearly waning,” says Strupler. That is understandable, but right now we have to take care of ourselves.
Corona imports are causing increasing concern to the federal government. Especially since summer holidays are coming up in many cantons – and people want to travel again. “In this uncertain situation, it is certainly not a bad idea to stay in Switzerland during the summer holidays,” said Federal Councilor Alain Berset (48) in Radio SRF’s Saturday broadcast.

And if you do want to go abroad – adds Strupler – at least when you return, you should exercise caution: “People returning from vacation should stay at home for ten days if possible and avoid contact with other people.”

In view of the latest developments, the authorities are also considering introducing “border sanitary measures”. Health checks at airports and national borders would be possible. Or that entry is only granted upon presentation of a negative corona test or after a two-week quarantine.
