Bacolod City Mourns Good Friday Tragedy: Three Killed in Procession Accident
Bacolod City is in mourning following a tragic accident on Good Friday evening that claimed the lives of three individuals participating in a religious procession in Barangay Alangilan. The Diocese of bacolod is offering support to the families affected by the devastating event.
Victims Identified, Community Grieves
The victims have been identified as Dionelo Solano, a lay leader; Gilven Tanique, a barangay tanod (village watchman); and Daynah Plohinog, a youth member. All three were parishioners of Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Parish.
In addition to the fatalities, 17 others were injured. Fourteen are currently receiving treatment in three private hospitals, while three sustained minor injuries, including two police officers.
Diocese Offers Support and Prayers
Bacolod Bishop Patricio Buzon released a statement expressing the diocese’s solidarity with the affected families. We are deeply grieved by the tragic incident,
Bishop Buzon said. He added that the diocese is offering our prayers, support, and compassion in this time of mourning
and continues to pray for those who were injured, that they may find healing and quick recovery.
Details of the Incident
The incident occurred around 7:20 p.m. when a red Toyota Innova, driven by Jagpret Singh, 37, an Indian national residing in Barangay Villamonte, Bacolod City, struck a tricycle carrying the three victims. The impact caused the tricycle to separate, and the motorcycle subsequently hit a police patrol vehicle, a multicab truck, and several pedestrians.
Legal Action Underway
Singh is currently detained at the bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) Station 5 in Barangay Granada. He faces charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, multiple physical injury, and damage to property.
BCPO Director Col.Joeresty Coronica assured the public that justice would be served. We will give justice to the victims of this tragedy by way of filing appropriate charges before the City Prosecutor’s Office,
he stated during a press conference.
City Government Provides assistance
mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez announced that the city government is providing immediate medical and burial assistance to those injured and the families of the deceased.
I have asked our traffic and law enforcement units to ensure that a strong case is filed and that justice is served,
Benitez said. He also urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified data and to support the ongoing investigation.
