Marc Soler Claims Stage 14 Victory at Vuelta a España Following Solo Attack
Alto de la Farrapona,Spain – Marc Soler (Movistar Team) secured his fourth career Vuelta a España stage win with a commanding solo effort on Saturday,September 9th,conquering the challenging final climb of Stage 14.The victory marks a redemption for Soler, who previously lost a stage on the same ascent five years ago to David Gaudu.
The decisive move came with under 2 kilometers remaining, as Soler distanced his rivals and powered to the finish line. Behind him, a battle for bonus seconds and general classification positioning unfolded, with Jonas Vingegaard (Jumbo-visma) narrowly edging João Almeida (UAE Team Emirates) for second place and the accompanying six-second time bonus. Jai Hindley (Bora-Hansgrohe) finished closely behind.
The stage saw a whittling down of the general classification contenders, leaving only Almeida, Vingegaard, Tom Pidcock (Ineos Grenadiers), Sepp Kuss (Jumbo-Visma), Thymen Arensman (INEOS Grenadiers), Matthew Riccitello (Israel-Premier tech) and Torstein Træen (Bahrain-Victorious) in contention with the red jersey group. Pidcock launched a spirited chase but ultimately couldn’t bridge the gap to the leading trio.
