Back to school depends on the evolution of COVID-19 cases | News from El Salvador

The behavior of the pandemic in the territory will define how education continues in the country, the Health Minister said on Sunday.

The beginning of school year in person, as explained yesterday by the Minister of Health, Francisco Alabí, is married to the evolution of the number of COVID-19 cases in the country, which he does not rule out may increase after the behavior that the population had during the recent Christmas and New Years holidays.

“If we go back weeks we would not expect to be 288 confirmed cases per day,” he said.

Alabí said that in due course information will be given on the resumption of activities under one of the modalities that are already structured, “but that will be framed depending on the number of cases that continue to be presented.”

He argued that the plan that this State portfolio has structured, together with that of Education, so that educational institutions can work during the 2021 school year has been designed in such a way that they can act as the situation unfolds.

The official alluded to the fact that each of the teaching institutions has uploaded their plans to assist the student population in the online platform “Grow Together”, of the Ministry of Education, either in person or remotely.

In some public schools, they have already managed to get Education to grant them permission to operate in 2021 after registering on the aforementioned platform, training staff and presenting their protocols.
