Che evening, on the RTL INFO set, the interfederal spokesperson for the fight against the coronavirus Yves Van Laethem gave his advice for the start of the school year. According to him, he does not worry about seeing his child return to class. However, there are certain things to remember.
There is no such thing as zero risk, but reopening is not a danger for Yves Van Laethem. “In any case, it’s a well-managed risk. We had some good examples: the resumption in June, the scout camps, the training structures in July and August, all of this went off without a problem ”.

The mask
Ideally, a mask is changed every four hours, ”explains Yves Van Laethem. “We consider that if we use it little, that is to say we speak little, we can use it for 8 hours. Unless it is wet or soiled, then it should be replaced. Ideally, it would be nice to have a second mask in the binder ”.
Two days before the start of the school year, the interfederal spokesperson wants to be positive.
Take advantage of the chance to go back to school, to have new contacts, including with teachers. They may be different from other years, richer. Take advantage of the contacts you have with your classmates ”.
Vacation Returns
Also invited on the set of the 7:30 pm JT, the Minister of Education Caroline Désir recalls that families returning from a red zone “cannot put their children to school. We must follow what is recommended by the Federal. Those returning from a red zone must be tested and remain in quarantine before they can return to school. For orange areas, this is a recommendation. We invite parents to contact the attending physician and review the situation with him. For the orange zone, the director cannot impose the test and quarantine. For the red zone, this is a legal obligation. Parents must protect the school. “
Canteens
“School canteens will be able to resume normally for primary and kindergarten. In secondary, students will have to eat with friends from their class, ”testified the Minister.
Can you refuse to send your child to school?
No. School is compulsory from the age of 5 in Belgium. “It is very important that the children return to school for their learning but also for their social contacts”, explains the Minister.
