KOMPAS.com – Labor politician Sadiq Khan won the second period as Mayor of London, Saturday (08/05/2021) local time.

The first Muslim mayor in a major Western capital city has a narrow lead over his Conservative rival Shaun Bailey.

Khan won the second term with more than 1.2 million votes. Meanwhile, Bailey won 977,601 votes.

One of Khan’s main programs that will be done is the Affordable Homes Program (AHP) or Program Home Affordable.

Khan’s housing program has been running since the first period he was crowned mayor of London in 2016.

After winning the second term, Khan will continue the program until the end of his reign in 2023.

During the second period, the funds to be disbursed for AHP are worth 4 billion pounds, or the equivalent of Rp 79.8 trillion.

The budget was allocated to build as many as 82,000 home new per year.

Launch london.gov.uk, houses built through this program will be well designed in terms of security to greening.

This is Khan’s ambition to create social home high quality that is not only owned by the elite.

Because, Khan has also set a target for London to become a city zero carbon in the Year 2030.

Thus, houses built with AHP funding will become environmentally friendly and sustainable homes.

Developers who wish to sell houses with AHP offers are required to meet the requirements set by the Government.

For example, the developer must provide splinker or system firefighters in each block, it is prohibited to use flammable materials, and must know the distance between the floor and ceiling heights.

“This is why I put the dual goals of affordability and quality at the center of the new AHP,” explained Khan.

He is also optimistic that he can achieve this target in order to overcome the housing crisis in the city and restore the construction sector due to the Covid-19 and Brexit Pandemic.
