[Reuters]–Thomas Bach, chairman of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), released a video message as it was six months before the opening of the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics, expressing his determination to hold the event as scheduled.

The British Times reported on the 22nd that the Japanese government had informally concluded that the Tokyo Olympics had to be canceled due to the epidemic of the new coronavirus infection. In response, Yasuhiro Yamashita, chairman of the Japanese Olympic Committee (JOC), dismissed the report as wrong and ridiculous to comment.

Bach did not directly mention the Times report and said he was confident that the Olympics would be held as planned. “It’s been six months before the opening, and the entire Olympic movement is looking forward to the opening ceremony on July 23,” he said.

“We exchanged views with the National Olympic Committees in 206 countries and regions today, and all the committees are looking forward to the Olympics and are working toward the event. We are also receiving full support from the Japanese government.” ..

“I talked with all the IOC members yesterday, but they are all determined to make the Olympics the light of the end of the tunnel,” he said. “All outlooks are good and we are working hard. It’s about holding the Games safely and ensuring the safety of all the participants. “

While making the Olympics a “big business,” Bach pointed out that large-scale sporting events are already taking place around the world, even though vaccination against the new corona vaccine is not widespread.

The organizer of the tournament is considering “every scenario” and said that he has a wide range of countermeasures that can be implemented depending on the infection situation. “It includes immigration and quarantine rules, social distance in the Olympic Village, quick testing, vaccination, and what to do with the spectators,” he said.

“There is no taboo in considering measures to make the tournament safe for everyone,” he said.
