Baby Left in Car During Heatwave: Dad Arrested After Tragic Death

Hastings, Nebraska – A tragic incident has deeply affected the hastings community after a baby was found unconscious in a vehicle and later pronounced dead. The baby’s father, Jeremy Hanson, 36, has been arrested and charged with child neglect by the Adams County district Attorney’s office, with prosecution initiated on the 30th of last month.

Emergency services responded to the scene, but tragically, the baby was already unresponsive upon their arrival. Despite being rushed to a local hospital, medical efforts were unsuccessful in reviving the infant.

The Hastings Police Department issued a statement describing the event as a “shocking tragedy for everyone involved” and extended condolences to the family, first responders, and residents. In a demonstration of community support, neighbors have launched a fundraising effort to assist the grieving Hanson family. The online platform ‘Wheat Ridge’ has seen over 400 contributions, raising more than $37,000.Additionally, arrangements are being made to provide meals for Hanson’s three other children.

This incident highlights a broader concern regarding child fatalities in vehicles. In the united States, an average of 37 children under the age of 15 die annually in car-related incidents. The years 2018 and 2019 saw the highest numbers, with 53 child fatalities reported in each year.In the most recent year for which data is available, 39 such deaths were recorded.
