The head of state thanked the international guests for their visit and called the presence of the leaders of Israel and Germany at the event symbolic.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, German leader Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Head of the State of Israel Yitzhak Herzog and representatives of several other states on Wednesday evening, October 6, took part in special events to the 80th anniversary of the Babi Yar tragedy at the Holocaust Memorial Center Babi Yar in Kiev, reported press service of the Ukrainian leader.

Thus, those present got acquainted with the audiovisual installation Mirror field, presented in the form of pillars with speakers, from which the names of the victims of Babi Yar were voiced by the voices of adults and children. They also watched a light performance in a ravine and visited a symbolic synagogue. A place for reflectionwhere the cantor’s prayer was performed.

During his speech, Zelensky expressed his conviction that Babi Yar is actually a monument to man in all its worst and best forms.

The head of the Ukrainian state thanked the international guests for their visit and called the presence of the leaders of Israel and Germany at the event symbolic.

“This is proof of the unity of our views. If you like, a test for like-minded people. As for me, we passed it successfully,” he said.

In turn, Yitzhak Herzog said that the worst tragedy in the history of the Jewish people took place in Babi Yar and that today world leaders should condemn any manifestation of anti-Semitism.

Frank-Walter Steinmeier, for his part, noted that the Second World War brought a lot of suffering, and thanked for the opportunity to honor the memory of the victims together.

As reported, a scientific working group established by the Holocaust Memorial Center Babi Yar, established the names of 159 Naziswho were involved in the executions at Babi Yar on September 29-30, 1941.
