Azis Syamsuddin Sued 4 Years 2 Months, Political Rights Revoked

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Public Prosecutor (JPU) at the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK)NCP) demanded the jury to punish Azis Syamsuddin with a sentence of four years and two months in prison and a fine of Rp. 250 million, a subsidiary of six months in prison. Prosecutors also demanded that Azis’ political rights be revoked for five years.

The former deputy chairman of the DPR was assessed by the prosecutor as having been proven to have bribed former KPK investigators, AKP Stepanus Robin Pattuju and a lawyer named Maskur Husain, with money worth Rp. 3,099,887,000.00 and US$ 36,000.

“The defendant M. Azis Syamsuddin was sentenced to prison for 4 years and 2 months and a fine of Rp. 250 million, subsidiary to 6 months in prison,” said prosecutor Lie Putra Setiawan when reading the indictment at the Corruption Court (Tipikor) Central Jakarta, Monday (22/5). 24/1).

“The revocation of political rights for 5 years starting from the time the defendant finishes serving the main criminal period,” added the prosecutor.

The money was given to Robin and Maskur to help take care of the case allegedly involving Azis and the Deputy Chairperson of the PP Youth Forces of the Golkar Party (AMPG), Aliza Gunado, regarding the investigation of the Special Allocation Fund (DAK) APBN-P Central Lampung Regency for Fiscal Year 2017.

In the case of Central Lampung, Azis and Aliza are suspected of accepting bribes.

In dropping the criminal charges, the prosecutor revealed a number of aggravating and mitigating circumstances for Azis. The aggravating thing is that Azis’s actions did not support the government’s program in eradicating corruption and were complicated when giving statements at trial.

The mitigating factor is that the defendant has never been convicted before.

For his actions, Azis is said to have violated Article 5 paragraph 1 letter a or Article 13 of the Corruption Eradication Act (UU Tipikor) in conjunction with Article 64 paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code.
