AZ financial slump: ‘Above twenty million, let’s keep it to that’

AZ director Robert Eenhoorn is relieved now that the construction of the new roof of the AFAS Stadium can start. He does recognize that it requires a considerable financial effort from the Alkmaarders, especially in view of the corona crisis.

“It is above twenty million euros, let’s keep it to that,” says Eenhoorn about the costs Noordhollands Dagblad. It means that these are also tough times for AZ. “We were able to finance the construction of the new roof thanks to the old stadium owners (the entrepreneurs who bought the stadium after the DSB bankruptcy, ed.) And our main sponsor AFAS, and perhaps another party will be added.”

“We have written very good numbers ourselves in recent years, fortunately,” continues Eenhoorn. “But still these are of course huge expenses – especially considering what is still on our plate due to the corona crisis.” For the collapse of part of the roof, last August, the Alkmaarders were largely insured.

The work on the roof is expected to continue in the autumn, when the new season has already started. AZ can continue to play in the stadium. “At the moment, it is not expected that there will be an audience at competitions. But if that is allowed, we will also be able to bring in some audience.”
