AZ must match a historic performance in the top match against PSV on Wednesday evening to keep the title aspirations alive. It only happened once that the Alkmaarders in the Eredivisie won three times in a row against the Eindhoven team.
In May 2019, AZ was 1-0 too strong in Alkmaar and five months later PSV was humiliated 0-4 at home by the team of the then trainer Arne Slot. The last and only time that AZ won three times in a row against PSV in the Eredivisie was between 1980 and 1981.
For the first time since the 2013/2014 season, PSV can lose three times in a row to one specific opponent. Feyenoord then turned out to be a fear gover. The people of Eindhoven usually do well against AZ. Before the two recent defeats, they won ten meetings in a row.
AZ can lean on fine results against Dutch top clubs. The two-time national champion won the last five meetings with a team from the traditional top three and did not concede a single goal in those duels. Prior to that series, AZ only won one of the nineteen league matches against Ajax, Feyenoord or PSV.

PSV in-house virtually unbeatable
