AZ Alkmaar Bans 43 Fans Following Attacks on West Ham United Supporters

Dutch football club AZ Alkmaar issued a decision banning 43 fans from entering its stadium after attacking West Ham United fans in the second leg of the Conference League semi-final on May 18 in the Netherlands.

The club said in a statement: “Alkmaar issued 43 bans on entering the stadium in response to the riots that occurred last week. This concerns people who were involved in misconduct surrounding the European semi-finals in Alkmaar.”

The club confirmed that a criminal investigation by the Dutch authorities is still ongoing. The Dutch police had arrested 14 people in the aftermath of this incident.

The riots erupted after Spaniard Pablo Fornals’ stoppage-time goal gave West Ham a 1-0 victory, thus qualifying for their first European final in 47 years.

Masked AZ Alkmaar fans then attempted to storm the area reserved for the players’ relatives and the West Ham coaching staff shortly after the final whistle.
