Recent data from the National Tumor Registry indicate that breast cancer affects, on average, 43 women per 100 thousand. For its part, the Costa Rican Social Security Fund, between 1990 and today, reports an increase of 63% in cases, while there are approximately 110 deaths per million inhabitants due to this type of cancer.

This explains the importance of approaching this disease from a preventive approach. In this context, we learned that the AVON brand has launched an ambitious campaign that consists of allocating 100% of the purchases of some of its products to the fight against breast cancer as awareness activities and the financing of medical examinations and tests. that could cover from aspects of preventive control, such as mammograms, to medical services such as results of abnormal tissue biopsies that could imply a risk to health.

Very importantly, the recipients of financing for this type of exams will only be women in poverty or social risk conditions, whose inability to cover the cost of the service is demonstrated by a letter from a public health institution or a social aid organization.

This year’s goal is to raise 12 million colones, which would be transferred to the Solidarity Against Breast Cancer Foundation, FUNDESO, which has a 35-year history.
