Avianca announces measures for frequent travelers

Avianca announced that it has taken measures for its users who belong to Avianca’s LifeMiles Frequent Flyer Program due to the travel restrictions that governments have implemented due to the covid-19 pandemic “as a gesture of support and tranquility.”

“We are grateful to our clients for their continued support and loyalty during these complex weeks for the aviation and tourism sector. Most of the 9.5 million LifeMiles members are currently unable to travel due to border closures in various countries. The priority now is to take care of your health and stay home. That is why we want them to be calm about their miles and their status and maintain their current benefits so that they can enjoy them when they are ready to travel again, ”said Zwannee Linares, director of loyalty of Avianca, in a press release.

The measures taken are as follows: all members who gained Elite status on March 1, 2020 will have their status extended until January 31, 2022. The term will automatically extend on March 1, 2021, without need for customers to contact the airline.

LifeMiles’ rating system (miles, segments and dollars) will be reduced soon. The enabler of miles flown with Avianca remains at 60%. Additionally, all changes to tickets purchased with miles are exempt from penalty. Customers will be able to request the changes, through the call center or LiveChat, until December 31, 2020 with a maximum flight date until June 30, 2021.

Likewise, the expiration of those miles that expired between April 1 and December 31, 2020 will be paused. This will be done automatically, without the need for customers to contact the airline.
