Steven Yeun, who previously voiced Avatar Wan in “The Legend of Korra,” is returning to the Avatar universe in a new live-action film.
The upcoming movie, titled “The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender,” is set to be released on October 9, 2026. Yeun’s casting was announced by showrunners Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, who expressed their excitement about working wiht him again. While Yeun’s specific role in the new film has not been confirmed, Konietzko stated, “We loved working with him and we’re excited to have him back in the universe.”
The film will focus on the original Avatar protagonist, Aang, and will be set many years after the conclusion of the original animated series.This is the first of three planned films set within the Avatar universe.
Yeun joins a growing cast that includes Dave Bautista in an undisclosed villainous role, Eric Nam as Aang, Dionne Quan as Toph, Jessica Matten as Katara, and Román Zaragoza as Sokka.
In addition to the live-action film, DiMartino and Konietzko also revealed the first image from “Avatar: Seven Havens,” a new 26-episode animated series. this series will follow a young Earthbender who becomes the next Avatar after Korra.
