Two weeks after the first vaccinations against COVID-19, the Ministry of Health makes an inventory of vaccination in France. Where are we in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes?

Since this Saturday, January 23, the Ministry of Health has made public all the data concerning the progress of vaccination against COVID-19 in France. In Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, the vaccination campaign began on January 11 for some professionals and was extended to priority people and the elderly on Monday January 18. Two weeks later, where are we?

Only 1.3% of inhabitants vaccinated in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes

According to a press release from the Ministry of Health, as of January 22, 963,139 people have already received their first dose of vaccine in France. The Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region is one of the regions having vaccinated the most people to this date. 104,232 inhabitants of the region have already received a first dose of vaccine, which places the region in 3rd position in terms of the number of people vaccinated, behind Île-de-France and Nouvelle-Aquitaine. If we take into account the proportion of the vaccinated population, the result is less brilliant: only 1.3% of the population of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes received a first dose, against 2.1% in Bourgogne-Franche -County. Overseas territories are considerably behind in their vaccination campaigns, Reunion, Guadeloupe, Martinique and Guyana having so far vaccinated only between 0.2% and 0.3% of their inhabitants. In Mayotte, the counters are still at zero.

Moderna vaccine for the most affected regions

The Pfizer / BioNTech laboratory, which manufactures the precious doses of vaccine, had announced a one week delay for its next delivery. Also according to this press release from the ministry, the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region is one of the regions that received the most doses of vaccines, on January 22: 163,715 doses exactly for the Pfizer vaccine – and up to 196,458 if it is assumed that no longer five but six doses can be drawn from each vial – plus 4,800 doses of Moderna vaccine.

Here again, the Île-de-France region and New Aquitaine were the best provided with Pfizer vaccine, but received no dose of Moderna. These are the regions particularly affected by this second wave that received the Moderna vaccines, namely the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, the Grand Est, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté and the PACA. This should allow them to vaccinate more people quickly, Moderna’s vaccine requiring less stringent storage conditions than Pfizer’s.

In addition, to streamline this vaccination campaign, a single number is there to guide residents of the metropolis of Lyon and the Rhône department who would like to be vaccinated.
