Northern Trust is seeking a highly motivated and skilled DevOps Engineer to join our dynamic team. You will play a critical role in automating and streamlining our software release processes, ensuring efficient and secure delivery of applications across a global landscape. What You’ll Do:
As a DevOps Engineer, you will be responsible for teh governance, automation, and optimization of our development and release pipelines. You’ll collaborate closely with development, QA, and operations teams to implement best practices and improve overall efficiency. Key responsibilities include:
* Pipeline Management: Administering and enhancing our GitHub Enterprise and Azure DevOps environments,including managing permissions,developing API integrations,and scripting pipelines.
* Automation & Release: Implementing and maintaining application release automation using tools like GitHub, Azure DevOps, and possibly the Atlassian Suite (JIRA, Bitbucket, Bamboo, Confluence) or similar.
* Scripting & Integration: Developing and maintaining scripts using Shell, Python, and PowerShell to automate tasks and integrate systems.
* Security Focus: Designing and implementing secure API integrations, prioritizing security best practices throughout the development lifecycle.
* Collaboration & Interaction: Working within a global team, participating in Agile/Scrum ceremonies (sprint planning, daily stand-ups, retrospectives), and effectively communicating progress and challenges.
* Troubleshooting & Support: Diagnosing and resolving issues related to application deployments and infrastructure.
* Continuous Advancement: Identifying opportunities to improve processes, enhance automation, and optimize performance.
what You’ll Bring:
* Strong Analytical & Communication Skills: The ability to analyze complex problems, develop effective solutions, and clearly communicate technical details to both technical and non-technical audiences.
* Technical Proficiency: A solid understanding of DevOps principles and practices, with hands-on experience in the technologies listed below.
* A “can-Do” Attitude: A proactive and positive approach to challenges, with a willingness to learn and adapt quickly.
* 1+ Years of Experience: demonstrated experience in application release automation, code migrations, or related DevOps functions.
* Agile Experience: Experience working in a global team utilizing Agile methodologies (user stories,sprints,scrum meetings) and planning work with Azure DevOps or JIRA.
Technical Skills (required):
* GitHub Enterprise & Azure DevOps Administration (permissions, API integrations, pipeline scripting)
* Docker containerization
* API Integration with a focus on security
* ITSM process experience (Remedy or ServiceNow preferred)
* Scripting (Shell, Python, PowerShell)
Bonus Points For:
* Experience with Unix, Linux, and Windows server administration.
* Familiarity with web services (REST, SOAP, AJAX).
* Windows & Linux Server Administration experience.
* Networking fundamentals.
* .Net knowledge.
* Java JRE/JDK expertise.
* Remote desktop administration skills.
Qualifications:
* bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field plus one year of technical experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
* Demonstrated ability to code or script and understand existing workflows.
* ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with minimal direction.
* Strong organizational skills,attention to detail,and a team-oriented mindset.
* Leadership potential to drive problem resolution.
Compensation & Benefits:
The salary range for this position is $99,600 – $169,200 USD, commensurate with experience. Northern Trust offers a comprehensive benefits package including retirement plans (401k & pension), health & wellness benefits, generous paid time off, and opportunities for professional development. A discretionary bonus program, potentially including equity, is also available.
