Automatic cars, don’t be lazy to operate the transmission lever, adjust the road conditions

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Many people have car automatic transmission because of its convenience. Unlike manual cars that have to move a lot transmission lever according to machine conditions.

However, because of its practicality, car owners sometimes become complacent and lazy to change the position of the transmission lever. In fact, ideally the position of the transmission lever is adjusted to the conditions of the road being traversed, such as incline, derivative, or jammed though.

Hermas Efendi Prabowo, owner of a Worner Matic automatic transmission car repair shop, said, automatic car risk of failing when climbing automatic transmission shift gears to a heavier ratio.

“When going through a steep incline, don’t leave the transmission lever in position D, because the automatic gear shift weakens its ability to climb. In fact, automatic cars can easily go through steep inclines,” said Hermas, when contacted by Kompas.com, some time ago.

Hermas added, if the position of the teeth remains in D, when the gas is stepped on a steep incline, the teeth will automatically shift. This condition makes the car lose torque and fail to climb.

Finally, there was an assumption that automatic cars were not strong uphill. In fact, depending on the position of the transmission lever used.

“Meanwhile, if you use ‘L’ or ‘D1’, your teeth will continue to be held in the lowest position. So that they can easily push the car over a steep incline, “said Hermas.

Many cases of automatic cars sneak through the derivatives. Because, many do not take advantage of engine brakes and only rely on brakes.

In automatic cars, the engine brake is usually in low gear. Can be in position L, and in some automatic types there are in position 2.

“How to use the engine brake is enough to move the lever from D to 2 or L. It is better if this is done at low speed. For example, the lever is shifted when the car is not traveling more than 30 kilometers per hour, so as not to cause overspeed. Next, it remains only to adjust the brakes, “said Hermas.

Hermas also added that the use of engine brakes should be done on steep descents. The goal is that the brake load is not too heavy and the car speed is well restrained.

When jammed, not a few are also lazy to move the lever position to N. Many prefer to just hit the brakes while waiting for the vehicle in front to advance.

Unfortunately, this habit is considered quite dangerous and has the potential to cause accidents. This is because if you press the brake pedal too long, you risk accidentally letting it go and crashing into the vehicle in front.

“Due to the matter of driving safety, the transmission lever on D when stuck has the potential to cause an accident. The problem is that the driver’s feet will be uncomfortable if he keeps pressing on the brakes, making them sore too, ”said Hermas.

We recommend that you move the transmission lever to the N position when it is jammed. Besides being safer, your feet don’t get sore quickly
