Spar regulates the successor to CEO Gerhard Drexel.

Two long-time members of the Spar Group’s board of directors, chairman Gerhard Drexel and Rudolf Staudinger, will leave the board at the end of 2020 after reaching the age of 65. Austria’s largest trading company announced its successor on Friday.

Fritz Poppmeier will be the new CEO of Spar Holding AG from January 1, 2021, and his deputy will be Hans K. Reisch. Marcus Wild, Markus Kaser and Paul Klotz are new to the board. All future board members have been with the Spar Austria Group for many years.

Drexel takes over as Chairman of the Supervisory Board

Gerhard Drexel has been on the Spar board of directors for the past 31 years – the last 20 as chairman of the board. His retirement at the end of the year is due to the age limit of 65 years provided for in the company’s articles of association. As co-owner, he will change to the supervisory board at the beginning of 2021 and take over the chair there. Rudolf Staudinger worked for Spar for a total of 36 years, including 18 on the board.

The new, future CEO Fritz Poppmeier is the son of the savings founder Fritz Poppmeier and has been working in various functions in the company for 26 years. The lawyer has been a member of the Spar Group Management Board since 1999. As CEO, he will be responsible for corporate strategy, PR, sustainability, retail sales, logistics, branch offices, expansion and regional management from 2021.

His designated deputy, Hans K. Reisch, is the grandson of the savings founder Hans F. Reisch and has worked in various positions in the company for 33 years. Since 2001, he has been responsible for the areas of finance, branches and Tann on the group board. From 2021, he will also be responsible for controlling, human resources, personnel development and law.

Christof Rissbacher takes over the Italian management

The new board member Marcus Wild has built the savings subsidiary SES Spar European Shopping Centers as chairman of the management board. He will be responsible for SES, real estate, hervis and business process management on the board.

Interspar managing director Markus Kaser will be responsible for the areas of marketing, CSR, purchasing, IT as well as Interspar and Maximarkt. Paul Klotz started at Interspar in Austria in 1994 and has been in the management of Despar Italy (ASPIAG Service srl.) Since 2000. He will take care of the international business of Spar Austria.

Christof Rissbacher, who has been managing the Spar headquarters in Wörgl for eight years, will succeed Klotz in the Italian management. Patricia Sepetavc will be the new managing director of the Spar headquarters in Wörgl, who is currently managing the branch for Tyrol and Salzburg.

Management of SES is reorganized

The change from Marcus Wild to the Management Board also reorganized the management of SES: Johann Felser, currently CFO of SES, becomes chairman of the management. At his side as the new managing director of SES are two proven SES executives: Christoph Andexlinger, who currently heads International Center Management, and Johannes Köth, who heads International Asset Management.

Johannes Holzleitner becomes the new Interspar managing director, since 2012 head of the supplier policy and product range strategy and managing director of EKS. Dietmar Steiner remains Deputy Managing Director at Interspar. Michaela Kaspar, Deputy Managing Director, previously at Interspar Head of Food and Non-Food I, has been added. Successor for Holzleitner as Head of Supplier Policy and Assortment Strategy and Managing Director EKS is Tanja Wiesmann, since 2001 assortment manager at Spar. (red)
