Peter Simonischek passed away on Monday at the age of 76. The Austrian actor was best known abroad for his role in the critically acclaimed comedy film Toni Erdmann. His cause of death has not been disclosed.
The Viennese Burgtheater, of which Simonischek was a part for decades, commemorates the actor as “a loving, caring colleague, a friend, a man of the heart, an outstanding personality. A person who took a stand, was interested in the themes of our time and stood up for his opinion.”
Toni Erdmann won many awards. The film received, among other things, six Lolas, a prestigious German film prize. Also became Toni Erdmann nominated for an Oscar.
Hadewych Minis played a supporting role in the comedy film. The Dutch actress describes Simonischek as a “great actor” and “fantastic colleague”. “It was my first big role abroad, I found it very exciting,” Minis recalls.
“Peter was not only intelligent, but also incredibly kind and interested, both in his game and off the set. He was always warm and involved and did everything to make me feel comfortable. I have nothing but fond memories of that time. “
The Austrian actor played in about eighty mostly German-language film and television productions.
