In the first test match for the coming season, Austria Wien lost 4-2 to second division side SKN St.Pölten. New signing Haris Tabakovic and Manfred Fischer scored for Violet.

On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of SV Böheimkirchen, Wiener Austria met second division side SKN St.Pölten in the first friendly of the coming season in Böheimkirchen. With Christian Früchtl, Reinhold Ranftl, James Holland and Haris Tabakovic, four newcomers were recently presented in Manfred Schmid’s starting XI.

The violets started engaged. Second minute: Kreiker got through on the left and saw Jukic, SKN goalie Stolz fished the ball out of the right corner of the cross. Shortly afterwards, Violett took the lead: After a Braunöder corner, Stolz parried Tabakovic’s powerful header, but was powerless shortly afterwards. The Swiss made it 1-0 after the wolves were careless.

The St. Pölten team drew attention to themselves for the first time after a good quarter of an hour, Scharner were only a few centimeters short of a Monzialo cross. In return, Can Keles only hit the side netting after the Braunöder Pass.

Austria knew how to please, combined elegantly through the opposing ranks at times, was superior to the field – but St.Pölten managed to equalize. Alexiev saw Silue in the penalty area, against whose deflected shot Früchtl was powerless. Proudly parried shots by Tabakovic and Jukic (free kick)-

After 35 minutes: Montnor made it 2-1 for St.Pölten with a precise low shot from the edge of the penalty area. Only three minutes later the equalizer again. After Jukic’s free-kick from 30 yards, Stolz deflected the ball to the crossbar, while Fischer shot away with a header to make it 2-2 at the break.

Both teams rotated vigorously at the break. Shortly after the restart, St. Pölten made it 3-2 through Jaden Montnor. Austria became much more passive as a result, the flow of the game in the first half was gone. Kos prevented a higher deficit against Montnor (55th) and Davies (65th). In the 84th minute then the decision. SKN striker George Davies runs away from Koumetio and makes it 4-2.
“Obviously that’s not a result you want. It’s been a tough week of training, with some players joining the team late. We know how to classify the result, we know what was wrong. We played really well in the first half and created a lot of chances to score. We are at the very beginning and are relatively relaxed about it, even though we know that there are a few things to address.”
