“Austria Award 2020” postponed to next spring / Article / LSM.lv

Taking into account the gathering restrictions and epidemiological risks set in the country, the “Austrian Award 2020” is postponed to the spring of 2021 and will take place in the “KK Von Stricka Villa”, the organizers informed.

The exact date and format of the event will be announced in the coming months.

The organizers explained that since the beginning of autumn, when the epidemiological situation in Latvia started to deteriorate again, ways were sought to ensure the success of the event and the celebration for both listeners and musicians, without risking the health of those involved. As it is currently not possible to hold the award ceremony in its usual form, it has been decided to postpone it to next spring’s return to the “KK Von Stricka Villa”. Given the possibilities of this venue, the organizers hope that the chosen time and place will allow to hold a full-fledged award ceremony and concert with spectators, as in previous years.

The “Austrian Award” is presented every year to an album that has been recognized by the jury of music critics and representatives of the music industry as the best album of the year in Latvia. For the past five years, the award has been given to Alice Joste’s album “Hardships Are Ships”, “Rīgas modes” album “Fantastiski”, “Satellites LV” record “Galavīksnes galā”, “Polifauna” debut “You Look Like A Lost Soul”, as well as Tribes Of The City for Rust And Gold last year

The initiators of “Austras balvas” are journalists of the music portal Intro.lv Lauris Anstrauts and Normunds Vucāns, it is organized by the association “Austras balva” in cooperation with “Latvijas Radio 5 – Pieci.lv”. The prize winners are provided by the Latvian Association of Performers and Producers (LaIPA).
