Australian Paralympian Paige Greco Dies at 28

Paralympic Gold⁣ Medalist Paige ⁣Greco ‍Dies Aged ⁤28

Adelaide, Australia – Australian Paralympic cyclist Paige Greco has died, aged 28, AusCycling ⁢and Paralympics Australia ‍announced monday. The sudden passing of the celebrated ‌athlete has⁢ prompted an outpouring of grief and ⁤remembrance⁤ within the Australian sporting community.

Greco rose to prominence after transitioning ‌to para-cycling in 2016, relocating to‍ Adelaide to train with the ‌South Australian Sports institute and completing a degree in ‍exercise sports science in 2018. She had initially ‌competed in para-athletics ​as a runner.

Greco’s international career began ⁣at ⁣the⁤ 2019 para-cycling Track World⁢ Championships in the ⁢Netherlands, where she achieved a remarkable debut, breaking three world records and securing‌ gold⁢ medals​ in the women’s C3 3,000m individual pursuit and the C3 500m time trial. Later in 2019,⁤ she added⁣ a road cycling world championship ‌title in ⁤the C3 time trial, and ⁣finished⁣ fifth in the road race.

The pinnacle of her career arrived ​at ‍the 2021 Tokyo Paralympics, where‌ Greco won a⁤ gold​ medal and two bronze⁣ medals.⁤ She‌ continued to excel, earning four bronze medals⁤ at world championships‌ in 2022 ⁣and 2023, and a bronze in the UCI ‌World Cup time trial in Ostend, Belgium, earlier this year. Most recently, she secured a bronze medal in the ⁣road​ race ⁤at the 2025 ⁤UCI Para-cycling Road World Championships in​ belgium in ‍August.

“Paige was an extraordinary athlete who achieved outstanding​ accomplishments at the highest levels of our sport,” said Marne fechner, ⁤chief executive of AusCycling. “Much ⁤more than that, she touched the lives of everyone around her with her positive spirit and brave outlook.”

AusCycling and Paralympics australia⁣ stated they would offer support to Greco’s family⁤ and ⁢friends ‌and would appropriately honor her ​legacy. further ‍details regarding memorial arrangements will be announced in due course.
