Paralympic Gold Medalist Paige Greco Dies Aged 28
Adelaide, Australia – Australian Paralympic cyclist Paige Greco has died, aged 28, AusCycling and Paralympics Australia announced monday. The sudden passing of the celebrated athlete has prompted an outpouring of grief and remembrance within the Australian sporting community.
Greco rose to prominence after transitioning to para-cycling in 2016, relocating to Adelaide to train with the South Australian Sports institute and completing a degree in exercise sports science in 2018. She had initially competed in para-athletics as a runner.
Greco’s international career began at the 2019 para-cycling Track World Championships in the Netherlands, where she achieved a remarkable debut, breaking three world records and securing gold medals in the women’s C3 3,000m individual pursuit and the C3 500m time trial. Later in 2019, she added a road cycling world championship title in the C3 time trial, and finished fifth in the road race.
The pinnacle of her career arrived at the 2021 Tokyo Paralympics, where Greco won a gold medal and two bronze medals. She continued to excel, earning four bronze medals at world championships in 2022 and 2023, and a bronze in the UCI World Cup time trial in Ostend, Belgium, earlier this year. Most recently, she secured a bronze medal in the road race at the 2025 UCI Para-cycling Road World Championships in belgium in August.
“Paige was an extraordinary athlete who achieved outstanding accomplishments at the highest levels of our sport,” said Marne fechner, chief executive of AusCycling. “Much more than that, she touched the lives of everyone around her with her positive spirit and brave outlook.”
