Northeast Austin Crime Hot Spot ​Targeted in Multi-Agency Investigation

AUSTIN, TX -⁣ A concentrated⁢ effort to curb violent crime in northeast Austin is underway⁣ following a series of investigations focused on businesses along ​900 E. Braker Lane, identified as a prominent ⁢crime hot spot. recent searches of two nightclubs, Diablas and Michelobos, yielded the seizure of⁣ firearms and illegal gambling machines, signaling a new phase in addressing ⁢safety concerns in the area.

The investigation, a collaborative effort between the Austin Police department (APD), the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission ⁤(TABC), and the FBI, aims to dismantle criminal activity contributing to ‍violence and improve quality of life for residents and⁢ businesses. The area has experienced a disproportionate number of incidents,prompting authorities to adopt a data-driven,multi-agency approach to long-term crime ⁣reduction. This initiative⁢ represents a broader strategy to proactively address crime trends and enhance ​public safety across Austin.

APD and partner agencies served​ search warrants at Diablas and Michelobos, resulting in the confiscation of firearms and illegal gambling machines. Citations were also issued for code and fire⁢ marshal violations. TABC subsequently secured emergency orders⁤ to halt illegal alcohol sales at both establishments, according to‌ TABC Chief Ron Swenson.

“How can we ‍address the‌ lighting, the security with the parking lots and other factors?” asked APD’s Schmidt, highlighting the need for comprehensive solutions​ beyond law enforcement.

APD Chief Davis⁢ expressed hope that​ the success ⁢of this collaborative approach can be replicated in ​other areas experiencing similar challenges. “Quality of life matters as much as hot spot crime issues,” Davis stated, ‌emphasizing the importance of⁢ addressing underlying factors contributing to criminal activity.
