Trainer Heiko Herrlich misses the resumption of his club Augsburg against VfL Wolfsburg on Saturday. The 48-year-old coach has not adhered to the corona guidelines of competition organizer DFL and is withdrawing for a few days, the club announced on Thursday.
Herrlich revealed earlier on Thursday at a digital press conference that he had briefly left the team hotel to purchase toothpaste and hand cream from a nearby supermarket, which is not allowed.
According to the guidelines set by the DFL when the Bundesliga resumed, players and escorts must be quarantined for seven days prior to the first game.
“I made a mistake by leaving the hotel. Even though I followed all the hygiene measures when I left the hotel, I cannot rectify this,” said Herrlich, trainer of Jeffrey Gouweleeuw, among others, on his employer’s website.
“In this situation, I can no longer function as a role model for my team and the audience. I will therefore be consistent and admit my mistake. Because of this misconduct, I will not lead the practice on Friday and I will not coach the team on Saturday against the game against Wolfsburg. “
Herrlich will be tested for the corona virus in the coming days. If he takes a negative test twice, he may resume his duties as Augsburg trainer.
