He secured nine of his service games and won 74% of his first-serve points, breaking Tabilo three times in nine return games. At one point in the match, Auger-Aliassime won five consecutive games, showcasing his momentum.
Tabilo struggled to find his rhythm, managing only two aces and no double faults. He recorded 11 winners but was hampered by 24 unforced errors, and only won 55% of his first serve points. He failed to win any return games against Auger-Aliassime’s strong serve.
Fellow Canadian Denis Shapovalov of Richmond Hill, Ontario, also enjoyed success on Friday. He defeated Australia’s Christopher O’Connell 6-3,6-2,with a powerful serving display of his own,firing 11 aces to O’Connell’s three. Shapovalov capitalized on four of his nine break point opportunities.
Shapovalov will next compete against the 15th-seeded Jiri Lehecka in the third round, setting up an intriguing matchup between two rising stars in the tennis world.
