The electric Grand Tourismo Audi e-tron GT will be the brand’s first model to be manufactured in Germany. The production line will be shared with the Audi R8.

Audi first presented the concept of its electric GT during the Los Angeles Motor Show in 2018, at which time it stated that it would start series production at the end of 2020. It is slowly approaching, so it is no wonder that Audi hurried with a bunch of news. From photos of the pre-production car, through development videos, production information to a demonstration of the newly developed artificial sound.
Let’s start with the pictures of the pre-production model, so far thoroughly wrapped in camouflage foil, which at first glance follows the shapes of the concept from 2018. For practical reasons, however, we will probably see larger mirrors or traditional handles. Also of interest is a pair of charging sockets on the front fenders, which is an element that Audi has apparently looked for lähde: Porsche Taycan.

So far, the pictures only reveal a technical prototype, which could change a bit to the production phase, but we would definitely not expect anything significant. The carmaker is already preparing production, which should be launched at the end of the year.
Production should take place at the Böllinger Höffe plant in Germany, where the R8 supersport model is currently being produced. Because of this, Audi had to modify the entire plant, add new equipment and, of course, retrain the workers, yet both cars will move on the same line. The production of an electric car and a sports car with a V10 side by side is quite a unique matter.

The carmaker is still silent about the GT e-tron technology itself, but it has talked quite a bit about the newly developed artificial sound that all new electric cars must emit to warn pedestrians. Because of this, the e-tron GT will be equipped with two large loud speakers (one at the front and one at the back), while the speakers inside are supposed to create an emotional sound experience for the crew.
However, more interesting than the technique around the sound will probably be the technique under the hood, which could be available in at least two versions from the very beginning. Markus Duesmann, Audi’s global boss, has confirmed that a sharper version of the RS will be introduced along with the classic GT e-tron. However, he did not mention further details.
