Audi grandsphere concept: the electric GT of the future makes its debut in Munich

On the occasion of the IAA exhibition in Munich 2021, Audi presents the concept of the electric GT of the future: a 721 hp zero-emission prototype, with the Sportback body and equipped with predictive active suspension management.

The one that will make its debut at the Bavarian event is the second of the three “sphere” show cars created by the German manufacturer: in Pebble Bech, during the month of August, it was presented Audi Skysphere, the car that transforms at the touch of a button.

The grandsphere concept is a model that anticipates the future of the luxury car segment: a sedan-coupe with level 4 autonomous driving and an on-board digital system that guarantees unprecedented entertainment experiences. The futuristic soul of the prototype immediately catches the eye thanks to the doors that open like a book: in the light of the absence of the central pillar, the passenger compartment is immediately presented in all its width.

Access by the driver and front passenger is monitored in real time: the respective seats are automatically adapted by customizing the climate control and the folding of the backrests. The electrical concept of Audi is 5.35 meters long, 2 meters wide and 1.39 meters high: the dimensions place the German sedan-coupe in the high-end sphere of the Ingolstadt brand that has recently unveiled the monstrous racing car for the Dakar.

Audi’s new electric GT debuts in Munich.

Quattro all-wheel drive, the brand’s hallmark. it is based on the presence of two electric motors, one at each axle. The overall horsepower of the powertrain comes in at 721 Cv, with a maximum torque of up to 960 Nm. Just like the Audi e-Tron GT Granturismo, the battery features a nominal voltage of 800 Volts. The maximum range declared is over 750 kilometers in the WLTP cycle. The concept is based on the PPE (Premium Platform Electric) native platform developed in collaboration with Porsche.

With the grandsphere concept, Audi has decided to evolve the distinctive style of the body configuration Sportback, evoking a four-door Granturismo. The electric propulsion of the prototype makes it possible to combine reduced overhangs, a bonnet with a limited height development and a particularly inclined windshield. The 23-inch wheels recall an icon of the 90s: the Audi Avus show car.
