Audi e-tron in front of Tesla Model 3> teslamag.de

In Norway, the share of pure electric cars in new registrations continued to increase this March. This was announced by the OFV transport association. Accordingly, of the total of 12,541 newly registered cars in the country, just under 7,000 were purely electric cars, which corresponds to a market share of 55.9 percent. In addition, there were 3,276 hybrid cars in March (the majority of which were rechargeable). This results in a total electrical share of a good 82 percent for Norway.

Record with Model 3 a year ago

Pure combustion cars are increasingly becoming the exception there, and the proportion of hybrid cars has also decreased further compared to January and February 2020. Overall, according to the OFV, the Norwegian car market was significantly weaker this March than a year ago; the total minus was around a third. However, large numbers of Tesla Model 3s came to Norway for the first time in March 2019. At that time, over 5,300 copies of it were registered, which alone accounted for half of all new electric cars in the country.

In January and February 2020, however, registrations of Model 3 in Norway remained very low – which is not uncommon at Tesla, because the company almost always focuses on a final spurt in the last month of a quarter. In fact, according to the OFV, there was another jump in Tesla approvals to 997 Model 3 in March 2020, after only a good 200 in the two previous months. Model S and Model X are not in the top 20, but made up a further 134 Teslas after the total for March.

Audi e-tron ahead of Tesla

The most frequently newly registered electric car (and car in general) in Norway did not come from Tesla this March, but from Audi: With 1681 new registrations, the Audi e-tron was again at the top of the OFV overall list. In January (902 registrations) and February (1171), the German brand had already led the Norwegian car rankings. But since March, Tesla has been on his heels with the Model 3 at least.
