auction at Crédit Municipal

Like almost every month, Crédit Municipal de Nantes sells items that have not been taken back by depositors at auction. The sale will take place this Thursday, December 16.

Almost everyone knows the Municipal Credit which, in Nantes, is housed at 2 rue Marcel Paul, behind the Malakoff district.

In another time, this type of institution was called the Mont-de-Piété or, more colloquially, “at my aunt’s place”.

Today it is a credit organization and still pawn shops. You can drop off valuables that are valued there. A sum is then loaned in return and, if this loan is repaid on time, the object can be recovered.

What makes it possible to face a period of lean cows.

But it happens, for various reasons, that the objects are not claimed. The Crédit Municipal then regularly sells what has not been recovered by the owners.

For many years it has been the company Couton-Veyrac who holds the hammer during these auctions which take place in the premises of Crédit Municipal de Nantes. They take place ten times a year but, since the start of the pandemic, the pace has slowed down.

“Customers have recovered their items quite a bit, notes Christophe Bonneau, the head of the pawnbroking service at Crédit Municipal de Nantes. For the most part, they saved money during the first lockdown. We expected after this confinement to have an influx (for pawn shops), but no, we were contacted by people who wanted to recover their property. This is the case for all municipal credits. We blew up a few sales. “

In an ordinary sale about 300 lots are auctioned, this Thursday there will only be 150.

We find in the catalogue from this sale a lot of jewelry, necklaces, rings, earrings, watches, and in particular a gold and diamond necklace-bracelet set which will be put on sale at a price of 5,500 euros. There will also be a series of Tintin statuettes for a few dozen euros and silver cutlery.

The lots will be on display Thursday morning from 9:30 am to 11:00 am, rue Marcel Paul and the sale will start at 2:00 pm. Plan to bring a mask and health pass.

In Angers, a similar sale is scheduled for Thursday, January 20, 2022 at 2.15 p.m.
